MEMORIES OF THE PAST

The first meeting of the St. Joseph Bay Chapter
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was held on October 23, 1975, in the Garden Club Center in Port St. Joe, Florida, with twenty-five members present. Prior to the first meeting, State Regent, Mrs. Frances Campbell installed the first officers and announced the official name of the new chapter. The name, St. Joseph Bay, was chosen because of the historical significance of the bay since 1492.

Early navigators attached great importance to the bay and it was significant in Colonial, Revolutionary and Civil War history.

The officers of the new chapter were Mrs. Paul Fensom, Regent; Mrs. T.A. Owens, Vice Regent; Mrs. Charles Brown, Recording Secretary; Mrs. Herman Dean, Treasurer; Mrs. W.B. Simmons, Registrar.

Thirty-five charter members made up the original membership. The chapter marked its twentieth anniversary in 1995. The twenty-fifth anniversary was celebrated in 2000.

St. Joseph Bay Chapter will celebrate its 35th
anniversary in 2010.
